Daniel E. Furtado
Councilmember Dan Furtado was elected to the Campbell City Council in the November 2022 General Municipal Election representing the newly formed District 3. He also served on the City Council from 1996 to 2010.
Dr. Furtado is a native of Campbell, California, where he served as a member of the City Council from April 1996 to December 2010. He completed his undergraduate work at San Jose State University, where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry and Biology. He attended the University of California, San Francisco, and received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree. He also holds a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of San Francisco. He is a Life Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
He served as a volunteer for the American Heart Association for 30 years and has served on the Board of Directors and President of the Santa Clara County Chapter of the American Heart Association.
Councilmember Furtado was employed by Stanford University School of Medicine as Senior Lecturer in Medicine and Associate Director of the Primary Care Associate Program in the Division of Family & Community Medicine for over 23 years. Subsequently, he taught part-time at the University. He continues to teach part-time at California State University, Monterey Bay. He served two years on active duty with the U.S. Army, and retired as Colonel with 40 years of service in the Army Reserve. He was appointed Army Reserve Ambassador for California in June 2006.
He was elected to the Campbell City Council after having served as a member of the Civic Improvement Commission for over 10 years. He served as Mayor in 1999, 2003, & 2007. He was selected Citizen of the Year for the City of Campbell for the year 2000.
Councilmember Furtado has served on the Boards of the League of California Cities and the National League of Cities, and was a member of the US Conference of Mayors. He also served on the Executive Board of the Association of Bay Area Governments. Service in Santa Clara County included the Emergency Preparedness Council, Joint Powers Authority of the County Library System, Housing Trust Board, Sanitation District Board, Flood Control Advisory Committee, and Cities Association Board.
