Campbell’s "Art Outside the Box" Utility Box Art Program
Art Outside the Box is a public art beautification program designed to transform common traffic control utility boxes in Campbell, into distinctive works of art. This program offers numerous benefits:
- Provides public art that creates a more vibrant, attractive cityscape
- Celebrates local artists and their artwork
- Acts as a deterrent to vandalism
- Involves Campbell residents in contributing to the beautification of the city
Background
The Civic Improvement Commission along with the Campbell Artists’ Guild, launched this program in February 2015 with a call to artists.
Program costs for the completion of the boxes were 100% funded through sponsorships and individual donations by residents, businesses, civic and other non-profit organizations.
Volunteers including City commissioners and staff, Campbell Artists’ Guild members, Rotary members, and local residents assisted with prepping the boxes. The Home Depot provided supplies and employee volunteers to assist with preparations. A total of four phases were completed.
