Electrify Your Home

Why Switch to Electric?

Burning fossil fuels for cooking and heating can significantly contribute to local air pollution, which causes both climate change and health issues. In 2024, the City of Campbell passed an Air Quality Ordinance prohibiting NOx air pollution from appliances and equipment in new buildings and major remodels. While the City doesn’t regulate existing buildings, electrifying your home can help you live in a cleaner and healthier environment. For many, electrifying your home can also result in reduced energy bills – both from more efficient appliances and better energy rates

Whether you’re required to comply with the new Air Quality Ordinance or you’re choosing to decarbonize your home, there are a range of incentives available to help reduce your costs.

This page is meant to serve as a starting point for homeowners in Campbell. While this list is tailored for residents in Campbell, you must meet the specific requirements for any incentives and follow any application guidelines. There might be limitations on incentives based on project costs or timing. Please be aware that incentives amounts can change in the future.

Bay Area Air Quality Management District (BAAQMD)

The Bay Area Air Quality Management District (BAAQMD) has updated rules regulating the amount of pollution from appliances. Beginning in 2027, gas water heaters can no longer be sold and installed in the Bay Area. And gas furnaces in homes will have to be replaced with electric zero-emissions systems starting in 2029. Many property owners will benefit by preparing their homes for the eventual replacement of gas with electric appliances when completing other projects in the home.

There are tax credits and many local program incentives to help cover the cost of this work.

Appliances and Incentives

You can find out more information about electrification projects below or by watching this webinar. To help reduce costs in electrification projects, there are many incentives at the local, regional, state, and federal level. These incentives can be point-of-sale discounts, rebates, or tax credits. Below, you can find a list of incentives by appliance type (Many of the incentives below are eligible only if replacing existing gas appliances).

Electrification projects in your home require a permit. The City has recently launched a streamlined permitting process for electrification projects. Learn more about the Automated Renewable Energy Systems Permit here
