Hamilton Avenue Plan
The Hamilton Avenue Public Improvement Plan aims to make the corridor between Winchester Boulevard and Bascom Avenue safer, more accessible, and more enjoyable for everyone—and your input is essential from the very beginning. Hamilton Avenue is an important connector and place for people who live, work, and visit Campbell. This project will explore ways to improve the roadway, sidewalk, and frontage to better support walking, biking, driving, and public transit.
Our goal is to create a vibrant, welcoming, and easy-to-navigate corridor that reflects the community’s unique identity, needs, and vision.
Study Area
Background
This effort is supported by a $400,000 Priority Development Area (PDA) grant awarded by the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) in 2023.
The Plan will help advance the City’s Housing Element, which envisions more than 1,000 new housing units in the Hamilton Avenue/Highway 17 area. To accommodate this level of growth and improve access to the Hamilton Light Rail station, the Plan will identify and prioritize multimodal transportation improvements along the corridor.
Building on the vision established in the 2040 General Plan, the Plan incorporates placemaking and community design strategies. It also coordinates with ongoing public works projects in the corridor and outlines clear pathways for project implementation.
Objectives
The following objectives guide the development of a cohesive and community-driven vision for the corridor:
- Unified Corridor Vision: Develop a single document that consolidates the vision, goals, and design direction for the corridor into an accessible and cohesive plan.
- Connected and Safe Mobility: Improve access, safety and experience for people walking, rolling, driving, and riding transit.
- Inviting Arrival Experience: Enhance the arrival experience and a sense of place.
